Biotechnology is an emerging area since 20 years and has created revolution in Medical and Agricultural science. The Government of India initiated the Department of Biotechnology to promote research and education in different areas of Biotechnology in India. Many Universities have taken a big lead in Biotechnology human resource development. After the full knowledge of human genome is available, biotechnology is going to play a major role in shaping the concept of future drug discovery, drug delivery, diagnostic methodology, clinical trials and to a great extent the major lifestyle of the human society. The growth of Biotechnology throughout the world at large and in the Indian industries in particular has been a point of debate. Constraints, concerns and difficulties in biotechnology in India will have to be addressed mainly related to human resources, training institutions in India, funding in biotechnology, patent-related issues and regulatory hurdles. Like in information technology, India has great potential in bioinformatics and biotechnology as well. Indian biotechnology industries have the potential to use the modern discoveries in life sciences to reach an enviable position in the world of biotechnology.

There is an urgent need in the country to discuss the emerging trends in Biomedical science and Nanobiotechnology in relevance to Human health and Nature Welfare has taken an early leads, while Nanotechnology is of recent origin. Nanobiotechnology is a combined technology of nanotechnology and biotechnology which attracts large attention for the application to medical treatment and health improvement. Nanotechnology has reached critical mass rising medical costs, demands for less-invasive procedures and pressures for immediate feedback of medical conditions, all point to nanotechnology as offering a new approach in healthcare. According to US National Science Foundation estimates, by 2015 the annual global market for nano-related goods and services will top $1 trillion, thus making it one of the fastest-growing industries in history. Assuming that these figures prove to be accurate, nanotechnology will emerge as a larger economic force than the combined telecommunications and information technology industries at the beginning of the technology boom of the late 1990s. Nanotechnology, a field of science and technology that aims to control matter at the atomic, molecular and macromolecular level, potentially has far-reached and paradigm-shifted implications for biology, drug discovery and medical technologies. The discipline has already yielded healthcare discoveries that have been used for drug delivery and diagnostic purposes. In the present symposium, we discuss various nanobiotechnologies under development for biological and medical purposes and assess their potential.

The focus of the symposium will be on : a) to educate the students and researchers on the updates in Nano-Medical-Pharmacy-Agri-Biotechnology and conduct a brain storm session to develop futuristic research trends in relevance to India, b) plan to have one full brain storm session for young scientists to debate on the recent trends in Biotechnology, c) also aim to arrange public lectures by world leaders in the area of Nano-Medical-Agri-Biotechnolgy to the common mass and d) also planned to have invited talks by world leaders in Nano-Medical-Pharmacy-Agri-Biotechnolgy areas and young students to present their papers and posters.

This International symposium will be a great scientific feast to students, teachers, public, industries and administrators interested in developing the curriculum and activities of Biotechnology.

About Association

The Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy (ABAP) was established on 20th January 2007 to form a joint forum of scientists working in Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Science. The prime objective of the association is to accelerate, advance and disseminate knowledge and information in the areas of Biotechnology and Pharmacy by organizing annual scientific conferences, seminars and symposia. In this process, the third annual convention and international symposium with a focal theme of Biomedical and Nanobiotechnology: Relevance to Human Health is being organized to provide a platform for researchers, scientists and faculty to discuss the various developments in both the fields (www.abap.co.in)

Publication of Proceedings

Selected research papers will be published as proceedings of the conference immediately after the conference is over. The format for the papers will be as per the format of the journal, Current Trends in Biotechnology and Pharmacy (www.abap.co.in)
